Attainment in reading, writing and mathematics in Key Stage 2 at Briary

The Department for Education’s preferred measure of success for Key Stage 2 is the proportion of children reaching the expected standard standard in reading, writing and mathematics otherwise known as Combined. To do this a child must have achieved a scaled score of 100 or more in the reading and mathematics tests and a teacher assessment outcome of ‘reaching the expected standard’ or ‘working at greater depth’ in writing.

70% of our year 6 children reached the expected standard in reading, writing and mathematics in 2017, 9% higher than National levels.

Individual subject results show an uplift on last year and compare favourably with National outcomes. Attainment in reading at the expected standard has increased from 2016 and is now 7% above National;

30% of our children achieved a high score in reading compared with 7% in 2016.

In mathematics, the proportion of children reaching the expected standard is 78%, again above national outcomes and representing a significant improvement on 2016. Attainment at the expected standard in grammar, puctuation and spelling (GPS) also shows an improvement on last year at 80%, with 21% gaining a high score as compared to 9% in 2016. The proportion reaching the expected standard in the writing teacher assessment remains stable at 77% (79% in 2016).

Progress in all subjects this year has shown uplift from end of Key Stage 1 results with significant progress evident in reading.

Just over 73% of our Reception children reached a ‘good level of development’ (GLD) in 2017; this represents an uplift from Baseline. In Year One, phonics continues to improve with 88% reaching the expected level in 2017, a 10% increase since 2016. Results in Year Two for 2017 are not as high as last year but still represent a significant improvement on a prior GLD of 54%.
